The Mary E. Bivins Foundation accepts and reviews scholarship applications once a year. The application typically becomes available early-January for the following academic year (August-July). The application deadline is typically the last Friday in February. Please review the full description of the Mary E Bivins Religious Scholarship Program to ensure eligibility before applying. The timeline for the Scholarship Program is outlined here.
Two notes of interest regarding eligibility are that the scholarship is restricted for permanent residents of the northernmost 26 counties in Texas (i.e. the Texas Panhandle) and the following will NOT be considered: (1) Individuals seeking a second advanced theological degree (whether or not the Bivins Religious Scholarship helped to fund the first), (2) Individuals seeking at PhD, (3) Individuals who intend to serve in music ministry, (4) Individuals who intend to teach at a theological school, (5) Individuals who intend to enter the international mission field full-time, and (6) Individuals who intend to work in a parachurch organization.
Please note that as a part of the application process all new applicants are required to interview with the Foundation’s Scholarship Interview Committee. Applicants are generally contacted in early March to schedule the interview. Interviews will be held in late March or early April and recommendations from the Committee will then be provided to the Foundation’s Grants and Scholarship Committee for consideration. The Grants and Scholarship Committee will formulate final recommendations to the Board of Directors. Applicants are notified of the Board’s decision as soon as possible, generally in the middle of May.
